Dunsfold Park Airfield

Ann Lewis (new member) and I have now secured the use of part of the large Airfield at Dunsfold Park, Cranleigh, Surrey, GU6 8TB.  Many thanks to the owners and staff who made us extremely welcome.

Access to the Airfield is via the main entrance at the end of Stovolds Hill (B2130).  There is a Security check point at the venue which you will need to stop at.  Inform them that you are there to Blokart on the Runway and they will direct you.  Basically, its straight on from the security point down to the perimeter road.  Turn right and drive past all of the main buildings (on your right).  Please keep to a low speed.  The section we can use is at the far end of the runway (almost as far as this road goes).

This is an excellent flat tarmac runway that many of you may know quite well as it features on the BBC’s Top Gear programme. I’ve put a couple of photos on the home page that show the part of the airfield that we use. Some of you may recognise the tyres as part of the Top Gear track known as the ‘follow through’. Use the following link, our area is marked by the red circle.

The venue is open to BLSA members during evenings and pre-booked Sundays. Evening bookings can usually be made for after 17:00 till dusk and there is a charge of £10 per Blokart. Sundays have to be pre-booked and the same charge applies but there is a minimum charge of £50. Please note that all the money paid to the Airfield goes to local charities.

As with any ‘active’ airfield, there are conditions of use and some basic ground rules that MUST to be adhered to. To ensure we can abide by these basic rules I’m looking for local co-ordinators who along with Ann and I can be key contacts for anyone wishing to use the airfield and to be the driving force behind Blokarting at this venue.  Venues are hard to find but so easily lost, so please let’s do this right.

These rules are as follows:

  • Anyone sailing Must be a BLSA member or Must be under the instruction of a BLSA Instructor
  • Permission Must have been granted by the Estate Office and the event organiser must have signed in prior to access air side.
  • 'K' numbers must be displayed on sails (unless using an instructors training kart)
  • Safety Helmets Must be worn and seat belts used
  • Blokart Sailing and Speedsailing only
  • Sailors MUST stay on the designated area, no exploring the rest of the site etc.
  • All cars are to be driven following Airfield speed limits and MUST stay to the designated road.
  • Under NO circumstances can cars be driven on the Main Runway or any other part of the airfield other than those allocated for sailing.
  • No exploration of any other part of the airfield is permitted (by Car, Blokart or Speedsail).  I’ll be posting these under the Sailing Venues menu on the website in due course.
If you are interested in Blokarting at this venue please contact me for more details.
